How To Get Motivation

Start where you actually are

Motivation is the easy part. Everything after it is the problem.

Everyone gets motivated. Sunday night, after a bad photo, at the start of January. The feeling shows up and then leaves, and nothing changes. This site is about what to build so it doesn’t matter when it leaves.

The order matters more than the effort

Most people attack all three of these at once, run out of willpower in nine days, and conclude they’re lazy. They’re not. They started in the wrong place. This is the sequence that holds.

STAGE 01

Body

Sleep, food and movement first, because every other kind of discipline is downstream of them. You cannot out-willpower six hours of sleep, and nobody has ever talked themselves into confidence while exhausted.

STAGE 02

Confidence

Not affirmations. Confidence is memory — it’s what your brain concludes after watching you keep promises to yourself for a few weeks. Stage one is what generates the evidence.

STAGE 03

Connection

Dating, relationships, repairing the ones you have. This is last on purpose. Technique layered over a person who doesn’t respect their own routines comes apart under pressure every time.

How this site makes money

Some of the courses and products mentioned here are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we earn a commission and you pay exactly the same price you would have paid anyway.

That arrangement creates an obvious temptation to recommend whatever pays most, so here’s the rule we hold ourselves to: every recommendation says plainly who it is not for. If a product only suits a narrow situation, we say so, and where nothing on the market is worth your money, we say so and recommend nothing. Advice you can act on for free stays free — it’s most of what’s here.
